Notice Number: NOTC4449

If you have already replaced your paper A&P certificate, then this message is not for you. On the other hand, if your A&P certificate is still printed on paper, please read carefully.

The FAA is under a mandate to replace all paper certificates with plastic certificates. If you do not replace your paper certificate on or before March 31, 2013, you will no longer be able to exercise your privileges!

More air travel means more plane maintenance

More than 24 million passengers are expected to fly in the U.S. during the Thanksgiving holiday which runs from Nov. 16 through the 27. CNN went behind the scenes with maintenance crews at United Airlines at its base in Houston to find out how they work to keep planes flying safe and on time. More than 600 flights will go through Houston this Wednesday alone. More

West-MEC aviation students celebrate major training milestone

After completing 1,150 hours of interactive lessons approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, West-MEC Aviation Technology students are now eligible to test for FAA Airframe certification. West-MEC Aviation program director Troy Gabaldon and fellow instructors honored students during an open house ceremony held at the West-MEC aviation school in Glendale, Ariz. More

That's because I've occasionally come across the aftermath of an owner who tried but failed to accomplish a simple inspection or maintenance task without the proper knowledge, tools or training. Too often, the results demanded a 'real' mechanic to come in and fix the mess. And, while I've tried to do as much preventive maintenance on my airplane as I can, I've often gotten in over my head and needed some professional assistance, too." More

The strike at Bombardier Learjet has ended after Machinists union members voted recently to accept the company's offer of a new labor contract. Seventy percent of the members voting approved the contract. Picketers will resume work on Monday, although they have until Nov. 30 to return to the job. More
