FAA approves 737 MAX changes; focus shifts to other regulators

The FAA's finalization of required changes to the Boeing 737 MAX and its formal reversal of a flight ban if the changes are implemented clears the way for U.S. operators to get their grounded aircraft back in service.
But operators elsewhere are still waiting for their regulators to sign off on Boeing's MAX updates and specify additional requirements.

Metrojet completes major Mx checks on G650ERs

Metrojet has completed two Gulfstream G650ER 4C inspections in the past six months, the only Hong Kong-based MRO to do so. The first one was completed in May while the second one was wrapped up in October.
Included in the checks were fuel tank inspections, ram air turbine ground functional tests, landing gear modifications, and shock servicing. Metrojet also rectified all defect findings on the twinjets within the 30-day planned downtime.

ST Engineering splits portfolio into commercial, defense

Singapore Technologies (ST) Engineering will be simplifying its portfolio into commercial and defense divisions, replacing the sector-centric aerospace, electronics, land systems and marine entities.
The restructure, designed to make the company more “industry facing and customer oriented,” will become effective Jan. 1.

Intercontinental Jet Service Corp awarded MU-2 STC for Scimitar Hartzell Props

Intercontinental Jet Service Corp (IJSC), Tulsa, has obtained a Supplemental Type Certificate for Hartzell Propeller’s scimitar four-blade aluminum prop installations on MU-2 twin-engine aircraft. Models covered include more than 260 MU-2B, -26A, -40, -36A, and -60 aircraft built by Mitsubishi.
The STC by IJSC, a Hartzell Propeller Recommended Service Facility, replaces the previous Hartzell steel hub prop installations with lighter weight aluminum hubs and blades. The new installation saves 17 pounds per engine and delivers better performance.

Jetcraft releases preowned bizjet forecast

Global aircraft brokerage Jetcraft projected nearly a $50 billion market for preowned business jets through 2024 in its five-year preowned market forecast released today. "Covid-19 has affected many industries, including our own," said Jetcraft owner and chairman Jahid Fazal-Karim. "However, business aviation has started to recover and the reduction in commercial flight activity provides a real opportunity for the sector to further expand its customer base and secure long-term prosperity."

The GE90 engine celebrates 25 years of service

On November 17, 1995, the GE90 entered service on the Boeing 777, powering a British Airways flight between London and Dubai.
The GE90 engine has been among the most reliable in the industry with a world class dispatch reliability rate of 99.97 percent. In July, the engine family surpassed 100 million flight hours.
"We are excited to celebrate another GE90 milestone and would like to congratulate everyone involved in the engine's success," said Mike Kauffman, GE Aviation's GE90 program general manager.

Gulfstream seeing sales momentum, hope with vaccines

Gulfstream Aerospace executives are optimistic that the rebound they began seeing in the third quarter has carried into the final quarter of 2020 and is poised to be further buoyed by positive developments surrounding Covid-19 vaccines.
"Demand is returning, which is encouraging for us," Scott Neal, senior v-p for worldwide sales for Gulfstream, said during a videoconference with reporters.
