Flight Safety Detectives Episode 143: Mooney accident in Maryland
PAMA
Did get-there-itis and lack of preflight planning lead to the crash of a Mooney M20J into a power line tower in Montgomery County, Maryland on November 27? The Flight Safety Detectives think so.
The aircraft had taken off from Westchester County, New York, and was bound for the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg.

FL Technics adds FAA engine MRO approval

FL Technics Engine Services has received FAA certification for aircraft engine repair and maintenance, making it the first company in Lithuania to receive such approval. The certification builds on the Kaunas company's EASA engine MRO approval.
"Addressing the supply and demand for aircraft engines and their components we are continuously investing in our assets, capacity, and capabilities, including a modern purpose-built engine shop with dedicated five-bay, storage, and support facilities," said Julius Bogusevicius, FL Technics head of engine, airframe and materials services.

Technician shortage improves but not enough, ATEC says

Despite a 33 percent increase in FAA-certificated mechanics last year, it wasn't enough to put an end to the shortage of airframe and powerplant technicians, according to the Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) 2022 Pipeline Report released today.
Last year, 6,929 people received their A&P certificates from the FAA, according to the report.

New terminal opens at KOJA

A new terminal building officially opened Nov. 22, 2022, at the Weatherford Stafford Regional Airport (KOJA).
The $1.6 million project began in December of 2021 and took nearly 11 months to complete, according to airport officials.
The new terminal was necessary because the current building, attached to the Stafford Air and Space Museum, would not accommodate the increasing air traffic that the airport was experiencing, state aviation officials explained.

First Aviation to grow MRO capabilities with AAMSI buy

MRO holding company First Aviation Services has acquired Fort Lauderdale, Florida company Associated Aircraft Manufacturing and Sales (AAMSI) in a deal that will augment its capabilities and open it to new markets.
Founded in 1953, AAMSI manufactures aircraft parts and offers repair and overhaul of aircraft electronics, avionics, and hydraulic and landing gear components.

Rolls-Royce and easyJet set new aviation world first with successful hydrogen engine run

Rolls-Royce and easyJet today confirmed they have set a new aviation milestone with the world’s first run of a modern aero engine on hydrogen.
The ground test was conducted on an early concept demonstrator using green hydrogen created by wind and tidal power. It marks a major step towards proving that hydrogen could be a zero carbon aviation fuel of the future and is a key proof point in the decarbonization strategies of both Rolls-Royce and easyJet.
