Forward-fit avionics sales in Q3 highest on record

During the first nine months of the year, global sales of business and general aviation avionics totaled more than $2 billion, the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) said in its recent third quarter report
AEA said avionics sales increased 4.6 percent from the second to the third quarter this year, marking nine consecutive quarters of increasing sales, the association said.

A national defense authorization bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives Dec. 8, 2022, includes language that eliminates an FAA policy change that requires pilots — and their flight instructors — to obtain a letter of deviation authority (LODA) to give or receive flight training in experimental aircraft.

Airbus survey predicts higher corporate bizav usage in 2023

Airbus's recent survey of senior executives of U.S. companies with annual revenue surpassing $500 million shows that 89 percent expect their organizations will increase their use of business aviation in 2023. Of that amount, one quarter believes it will rise by more than 50 percent, 7 percent anticipate no change in usage, 2 percent were unsure of their 2023 usage, while just 2 percent say it will decline.

Eviation announces Letter of Intent for the all-electric Alice from Air New Zealand

Eviation Aircraft, a manufacturer of all-electric aircraft, announced that Air New Zealand has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for up to 23 aircraft as part of its Mission NextGen Aircraft program. The airline is the first national flag carrier to sign a letter of intent to order as part of its ambitious initiative to lead the roll out of zero-emission airplanes.

Engine makers team on contamination research

Engine makers Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce are teaming with Virginia Tech in a four-year research program studying the impact of environmental contaminants on aircraft engine operation and testing. These contaminants can lead to accelerated aging and performance loss in turbine engines.
"At Virginia Tech, we are honored to be given the opportunity to build on the foundation of our existing academic alliances by partnering with Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce on this project," said Changmin Son, the Rolls-Royce Commonwealth Professor at Virginia Tech.

Used aircraft values continue to climb in November

Asking values for used business jets, turboprops, and piston singles continued to climb in November even as inventories also marched higher, according to the latest report from Sandhills Global.
In the U.S. and Canada, used turboprop values increased by 36.65 percent. At the same time, turboprop inventories rose 14.6 percent between October and November, although they were 12.35 percent lower than a year earlier.
