Aviation Week
From March 25: Constant Aviation, a Cleveland-based maintenance, repair and overhaul specialist, says concern over the COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a wave of inquiries from business and commercial operators over applications of a specially developed anti-microbial protection treatment for aircraft interiors.
The nontoxic coating, developed by coating company MicroShield 360, is currently being applied to more than 160 aircraft operated by Flexjet, and is also applicable to larger commercial aircraft.

4. Why is the cockpit called the cockpit?
General Aviation News
From Sept. 23: Franklyn, a Sport Pilot from Virginia, writes: I figured that as you write "Questions from the Cockpit," you'd know how the cockpit got its name. Why is the cockpit called the cockpit?
There are three competing theories to explain the use of the word "cockpit" as the name for the nerve center of an airplane. Strap in, we'll fly through them all.

5. Torqued: Beware what you put in writing
AINonline
From March 4: Just when you think there isn’t another lesson to be learned from the Boeing 737 Max crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, along comes a trove of email and text messages from Boeing employees involved in the certification of the Boeing 737 Max that just leave me scratching my head. The messages were handed over to Congressional investigators at the beginning of the year and include over 100 pages of internal documents; most are messages between Boeing employees; but some are between Boeing employees and inspectors at the Federal Aviation Administration.

7. Michigan pilot creates hangar man cave
General Aviation News
From Aug. 12: Gary Huffman likes to kid people when they come inside his hangar “man cave” asking him where the hangar door is. He tells them he takes the wings off his plane and brings it in through the window.
Except for the telltale red hydraulic cylinders on each side of the closed door, it really isn’t very easy to tell where the hangar door is.

8. Ask Paul: Can I permanently remove the vacuum pump?
General Aviation News
From Oct. 14: Q: Are there any Service Bulletins or Service Instructions pertaining to permanently removing a vacuum pump from a Lycoming engine?
I've noticed a Plug-Vacuum Pump Drive, P/N LW-10303, is shown in some parts manuals, but is not shown in other parts manuals.
The engine I'm currently servicing is an IO-360-C1C6, installed on a PA-28R-201 (Arrow III), built in 1978. This plane has recently had its two original gyros removed and replaced with dual Garmin GI 275 indicators.

10. Aviation mechanics need to be interested early down under
Aviation Week Network
From Feb. 19: Technician recruitment is a challenge impacting all parts of the world. This is very much the case in Australia, a country where MRO providers are looking at the tips and traps for recruiting new aviation mechanics.
For example, Denise Dunn is head of department for senior schooling and partnerships at Aviation High School. "We are a standard high school which attracts students interested in this occupation," Dunn explains.
