Thousands more claims in after Oklahoma tornadoes

Insurance companies have been deluged by property damage claims since tornadoes raked central Oklahoma last month, and state officials were still trying to tally the initial claims from the most recent outbreak two weeks ago. The nearly $250 million in insured losses from the May 19-20 tornadoes are a "drop in the bucket" to what the final tally of insurance claims will be, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak said.

A federal lawsuit filed by municipal insurer the Local Government Center, against its own insurance providers for their refusal to pay more than $1 million in legal defense bills, has been delayed and won't go to trial until next year. Federal court records note the LGC and its insurance providers agreed to continue the case that's described as complicated.
