With RNC cameras in place, downtown Tampa, Fla., sees drop in crime

Crime in downtown Tampa, Fla., has dropped 23 percent since last year, and while police don't give all the credit to the surveillance cameras bought for the Republican National Convention, they're glad to have the technology. "They're just another tool in our toolbox," police Capt. Mike Baumaister told the City Council recently, saying he believed the cameras have had some impact on downtown crime.

Onondaga County, N.Y., prosecutors agreed to drop criminal charges recently against a disabled man tasered by Syracuse police because he wouldn't get off a Centro bus in May. City Court Judge Theodore Limpert granted a request by Assistant District Attorney Jeff Schiano and defense lawyer Rick Guy to dismiss charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct against Brad Hulett stemming from the May 3 incident on a bus at Centro's hub in downtown Syracuse.
