Eight Alabama counties are under a "State of Emergency," declared by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey in advance to Tropical Storm Gordon's arrival.
The declaration includes Baldwin, Mobile, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Monroe and Washington counties. The declaration was first announced publicly on Twitter by Alabama Emergency Management Agency director Brian Hastings.

Statistics from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission differ, but still show an increase in the number of alligator bites suffered by humans since gators came off the endangered species list.

Hackers are constantly probing for “the one flaw overlooked” in Houston’s computer networks, said the official responsible for safeguarding the fourth-largest U.S. city’s system.
“Compromise is inevitable,” said Christopher Mitchell, chief information security official, at a Houston City Council hearing last month. His presentation helped persuade local lawmakers they needed a $30 million cybersecurity insurance plan with a $471,400 premium.

The American Red Cross West Virginia Region urges everyone not to wait until an emergency occurs and it’s too late.
“We strongly encourage you to take steps now to prepare,” said Courtney Clark, Executive Director for Southeast West Virginia. “We see disasters often this time of year, so it is vital for you and every member of your household to have a plan.”
