How to end workplace bullying
Lab Manager
Drs. Warren and Roberta (Robin) Heydenberk of Lehigh University's College of Education provide their take on the harmful effects of bullying among adults and offer a solution to prevent and end the practice.
Although it seems ironic that a 300 pound professional football player would be bullied, as happened recently in the Miami Dolphin incident involving Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin, it is actually a very common occurrence. Unfortunately, bullying behavior — whether unprovoked, unidirectional or intentional abuse — is alive and well in the adult sphere, including the workplace.

Is Rhode Island 'texting tolerant?'
WLNE-TV
Everywhere you look on the roads and highways these days, people are texting and driving, even though it's illegal.
"I've seen too many people driving distracted. It scares me. I mean I'll see them creep up to me and they are all thumbs and all this stuff. Man it scares me," said Gene Carignan, a driver from Coventry.
So ABC6 wondered, is anyone enforcing the law?
Mississippi school district waives insurance rule for some Santas
Claims Journal
For this holiday season, DeSoto County school officials are waiving a requirement that Santa Claus have liability and workers’ compensation insurance coverage before he can pay a visit to area campuses.
District officials tell The Commercial Appeal that volunteer Santas are getting a break. Such visits by Santa are a regular part of holiday festivities at area schools, where parties, concerts and appearances by students at functions are a regular part of the season.

Oklahoma school emergency, classroom safety law confusing
KJHR-TV
It’s been six months since a massive EF-5 tornado ripped through Moore killing 25 people, including seven children in the Plaza Towers Elementary School.
In the wake of that devastating tornado and the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, state lawmakers beefed up the law intended to ensure children’s safety in public schools during both manmade and natural disasters. A three-month 2NEWS Investigation found school officials and some emergency responders to be confused about what the law requires, which has delayed its implementation.
National standards urged for tornado prediction
Claims Journal
National standards should be set for building construction, storm shelters and emergency communications to reduce death and damage from tornados, a federal agency that studied the deadly 2011 tornado in Joplin, Mo., recommended on Nov. 21.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology said 135 of the 161 deaths from the May 22, 2011 tornado resulted from building failure. The EF-5 tornado was the deadliest single tornado in the United States since official records were first kept in 1950, the agency said.
FEMA assesses tornado damage
WMAQ-TV
As federal storm damage assessors recently started working across Illinois, state officials revised the number of homes destroyed or damaged by the weekend's tornadoes upward to at least 1,500.
Residents of hard-hit towns also started shuttling hundreds of tons of debris out of the neighborhoods. But there were small signs of normal life that emerged: Some schools in the small central Illinois city of Washington reopened Nov. 21.
