Champlain Bridge: Sneak peek at the sleek new design

The designers of the new Champlain Bridge believe the cable-stayed structure could become Montreal's next great landmark. The design of the new bridge was unveiled this morning by federal infrastructure minister Denis Lebel, along with a video which takes drivers on a virtual crossing of the future span.

Jury announced for Moriyama RAIC International Prize

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Foundation announces the appointment of a distinguished jury to select the winner of the inaugural Moriyama RAIC International Prize — one of the largest architectural prizes in the world. The jury includes independent experts of international stature engaged in architectural practice, teaching, sustainable development and service to society and the architectural profession.

Baseball stadium architecture has come a long way since SkyDome opened in the late 1980s

Since 1993, there have been only seven times when the stadium that played host to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game was not a brand-new barn. That year, of course, featured Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the now already iconic "nostalgia park" that has gone on to become the template for so many other cities' efforts to capture the traditions and heroics of eras in a game whose history spans three centuries.

Vancouver awards bring design for the future

Vancouver doesn't often lag behind Canadian cities when it comes to urban design. More often than not it is at the forefront of trends in the field, from walkable neighbourhoods to place-making. Except for one. Unlike so many other municipalities big and small, the West Coast city has not had its own urban-design awards, which not only recognize excellence, but allow cities to hold up a standard for planners and developers.

Art gallery architect left 'indelible' mark on Edmonton's downtown

The American architect who designed the Art Gallery of Alberta, a landmark swirl of steel, patinated zinc and glass on the northeast corner of Churchill Square in Edmonton, has died. Randall Stout died from renal cell cancer, said Sabina Lira, spokeswoman for Los Angeles-based Randall Stout Architects Inc. The 56-year-old leaves behind a wife and three children.
