Call for submissions to the 2014 National Urban Design Awards
Canadian Architect
Urban design plays an important role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Canadian cities. Architecture Canada | RAIC, the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects in cooperation with Canadian municipalities, wish to promote public and private awareness of that role.

L'urbaniste émérite et architecte Michel Barcelo est mort à l'âge de 75 ans

L'urbaniste bien connu Michel Barcelo vient de mourir à l'âge de 75 ans. Au terme de sa longue carrière, M.Barcelo, qui était aussi architecte, avait été sacré membre émérite de l'Ordre des urbanistes du Québec, en 2012. Sa carrière d'enseignement avait débuté à l'Université de Montréal, en 1964, après ses études menées à Montréal, en Écosse et aux États-Unis.

After selling their previous country house because of the lack of natural light, a couple and their 3 kids decided to buy an empty lot and build a custom home to better suit their needs. They found a parcel of land with southern exposure at vast views of the lake Lac-de-la-Cabane. The constraints of the site led to an L-shaped footprint where an east-west oriented rectangular block was placed at the top of the topography, and a north-south oriented block was slid underneath.

Ryerson to build state-of-art smart grid laboratory

A future state-of-the-art smart grid laboratory at Ryerson University aims to spark new energy solutions and innovations through the research of the school's engineering students. "It going to be a sandbox for students to learn on the smart grid technologies," said Daniel Peloquin, president of Schneider Electric Canada, the company collaborating with the university to build the lab.
