Parts stripped from U.S. presidential helicopters have played a critical role in keeping the Canadian military's search-and-rescue chopper fleet flying, according to documents obtained by the Citizen, but the air force is still undecided on whether the former American aircraft will be joining its ranks.
Canada purchased the nine new VH-71 presidential helicopters and more than 800,000 spare parts in 2012 after U.S. President Barack Obama shut down the multi-billion dollar program and decided that existing aircraft were good enough for his needs.

In its first throne speech the Trudeau government promised to review the country's defence capabilities and "invest in building a leaner, more agile, better-equipped military." At the same time, the government has signaled it intends to hold the line on defence spending.

The Canadian military will refurbish rather than retire two ground-based radar systems that were recently declared "unsupportable" and "urgently" in need of replacement.
The decision to extend the life of the aging systems, which support Canada's CF-18 fighter jets, follows the collapse of a five-year-old procurement deal that was supposed to deliver high-tech replacements by this year.

The RCAF continues to prepare for the introduction of the new Cyclone maritime helicopter. The RCAF is currently flying the aircraft, conducting Initial Operational Test and Evaluation, according to the Department of National Defence. Training of personnel is also continuing. "There are currently 40 technicians, seven pilots, six air combat systems officers and six sensor operators currently trained on the Cyclone Block 1.0," DND spokesman Daniel Le Bouthillier recently told Defence Watch.

The award was presented to 431 Air Demonstration Squadron during the 2015 International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) luncheon in Las Vegas, NV.

Moe Moore, the man responsible for preparing the drink, said this year's batch must have been good because it was gone in less than an hour.
