8 quirky retirement communities
MarketWatch    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Not excited about retiring to a typical golf course-based gated retirement community? Not to worry — a new breed of retirement community caters to those whose interests lie outside the mainstream. For example, Lake Weir Living in central Florida calls itself a "toy-friendly" community and offers 50-foot garages for storing RVs. And at Escapees CARE in Livingston, TX, visitors can park their RV on the grounds and get nursing care, meals, and more on site. Or they can stay longer, even for years if they'd like. More

Tampa Bay Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When it comes to recreational vehicles, small is in big demand. Take the bright yellow "Minnie Winnie," which is 20 feet long, weighs less than 3,500 pounds, and can be pulled by any truck or SUV. Even its price is small — it starts at $17,000. "Part of the appeal of these new, lightweight travel trailers is that you don't have to go out and buy a new vehicle to get it to where you want to go," says Dave Kelly, spokesman for the Florida RV SuperShow.
