A special RV Learning Center Town Hall conference call last week covering the RV Technician Certification Preparation Course attracted dozens of participants who wanted more information about this highly effective resource. The RV Learning Center’s YouTube channel has a video of material covered in the Town Hall, including frequently asked questions about the course. Techs who take the prep course have a far higher rate of passing the certification test than do those who don’t use the course. More

RVDA says proposed emissions and fuel-efficiency standards would harm RV industry

RVDA submitted comments this week to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) expressing concern that proposed greenhouse gas regulations will impose a financial hardship on the RV industry and RV owners. EPA wants motorhomes included in the same regulations that would apply to commercial trucks. More

Drew pays $7.25 million for furniture builder

Drew Industries Inc. reported that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lippert Component Inc., acquired the assets and business of Nampa, Idaho-based Home-Style Industries and its affiliated companies for $7.25 million. Home-Style manufactures upholstered furniture and mattresses, primarily for towable RVs, in the Northwest market. Lippert makes RV furniture and mattresses in Indiana but doesn’t serve the Northwest RV market, making Home-Style a strong strategic complement. More

PleasureLand RV adds two more locations in Minnesota

RVDA member PleasureLand RV announced this week that it is doubling its locations with the opening of a new dealership in Brainerd and the acquisition of a Willmar RV dealership. PleasureLand RV Outlet in Brainerd opened Monday and offers park trailers, travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, truck campers, and folding trailers. The former RVs Plus in Willmar, now also named PleasureLand RV Outlet, opened Jan. 15 and offers a similar product line. General Manager Will Jarnot said the company has long sought a greater presence in the Brainerd market, and the opportunity to acquire the Willmar dealership arose last fall when its former owner decided to retire. Shane Voyles, who owns RVDA member dealership Show-Me Campers and Boats in Grain Valley, MO, has no trouble coming up with a sales pitch for the RV lifestyle. “When I was growing up, my grandpa had a camper, and he would take me all over the country,” Voyles says. “I still remember staying right beside some great fishing lakes and rivers, hiking in the mountains and spending time with my grandpa. Those great times got me started in the outdoors.” Voyles will be at Bartle Hall for the Mid-America RV Show, displaying everything from pop-up campers to luxury travel trailers and fifth-wheel units. RV Learning Center establishes memorial fund for Raymond Van Pelt

Past chairman of the RVDA board of directors Fran Van Pelt and her husband Rich lost their son Raymond Van Pelt in a tragic accident on Christmas Eve. Peter and Lynn Albano of American RV in Olive Branch, MS, have provided a donation to the RV Learning Center to start a memorial fund in honor of Raymond.
