Winnebago ranks 65th on Fortune magazine's list of 100 fastest-growing companies
CNN Money
Winnebago Industries has been listed 65th on Fortune magazine's "100 Fastest Growing Companies" in the Sept. 16 issue. "We're honored to be named," says Winnebago Industries Chairman, CEO and president Randy Potts. "We've worked extremely hard to turn the company around following the recession, and we're very pleased with our progress so far. With the motorhome industry shipment volumes recovering but still well below the 25 year average, we are even more excited about what lies ahead as the economy continues to grow."

Crews tape HGTV show at RV Show in Hershey
The Patriot-News
Film crews taped an HGTV network show focused on RVs during "America's Largest RV Show" at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA. The crews and producers focused on three families who are interested in buying vehicles in a variety of price ranges. Each family was filmed over the course of a single day as they looked at vehicles, tried out new features and talked to the camera about their experiences. The idea is to give viewers a consumer perspective on the RVs rather than that of a salesperson.

Newspaper asks: Is a lightweight the right weight for you?
The Spokesman-Review
There's a new buzzword in the RV trade — seems like half the trailers, campers and fifth-wheels one sees these days are emblazoned with a logo bearing some version of the word "light." Super Lite! Ultra Lite! Ever Lite! The benefits of weight reduction are obvious. A 30-foot travel trailer built using lightweight materials and construction techniques can weigh hundreds of pounds less than a conventional trailer. That converts to savings at the gas pump; towing a lightweight may reduce fuel consumption by a mile per gallon. Equally important is the impact of weight loss on the tow vehicle.

He pointed to packed campgrounds as evidence that RV enthusiasts remained loyal over the past four years. "It told us people were simply holding off their buying decision" and waiting for the entire economy to start recovering.

Solar power in travel trailers
Opposing Views
Adding a solar power electric system to your trailer greatly increases the number of places you can stop and still have electricity. To install solar power in your trailer, you have to determine how much power you need to generate and how much storage you need. You free yourself from using only serviced camp sites and you don't have to put up with noisy generators.

Leaders don't fix problems, they turn them into opportunities
Imagine if you and your team engaged in problem planning — if you listed your company's problems and decided to not just solve them but to turn them into opportunities. Example: Remember when Walgreen's and Safeway began selling reusable shopping bags in an ecofriendly marketing ploy to get consumers to stop using plastic ones? Those thin, cheap plastic bags were a pure expense for the companies. By encouraging consumers to switch to reusable bags, they not only eliminated an expense but generated revenue. A recurring expense item (true problem) turned into a recurring revenue stream (true opportunity). The ability to not just solve a problem but to turn that problem into an opportunity is the mark of true leadership.
