Campgrounds keep the fun going through fall
Chambersburg Public Opinion    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

"Campground operators have learned that if they still offer fun things to do, campers will continue coming, even after Labor Day," says Jeffrey Crider, spokesman for the National Association for RVs and Campgrounds. His association just completed a major overhaul of its website,, to help extend the season. More

Mandatory reservations mulled over by National Park System
National Parks Traveler    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Should campground reservations be mandatory in the national park system, or should all campsites be on a first-come, first-served basis? That is a highly debatable question, one that seems to ebb and flow not only with the seasons, but with proposals floated by various parks to implement a reservations system. Most recently, officials at Voyageurs National Park said they want to hear what the public thinks about a reservations system for some campsites. More

The Durango Herald    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Even on vacation, Dick and Nina Chapman are never too far from home. That's because their home goes with them. The retirees spend six months of the year in a luxurious 42-foot Winnebago with a full-wall slide out and two additional slide outs that provide a kitchen, living room, bedroom with queen-size bed, bathroom, shower, wood cabinets, ceramic tile floors, decorative lighting, two leather couches and four televisions. "It was always a dream of mine to retire and get an RV," says Dick Chapman, 77. More

WSJV-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Before Darryl Searer came along, the RV Hall of Fame was $5.5 million in debt. In six months, he says, "We dropped it from $5.5 million to $3 million." Searer was living a retiree's life in Florida when he heard from a board member that the Hall of Fame might not survive. After some thinking, he decided to head to his hometown and step in. He made a business plan and negotiated the loans, and the hard work has paid off. More

Gas prices dip, breaking 9-week run up
Reuters via    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Gasoline prices in the United States dropped four-tenths of a cent over the past two weeks as crude oil prices fell, ending a long stretch of sustained price increases, according to an industry survey. While the price decline is tiny, it ends a nine-week run of increases and could portend a period of price stability, according to Trilby Lundberg, editor of the Lundberg Survey, which covers some 2,500 gas stations nationwide. Peek inside Indio, CA's RV gated community
Palm Springs Life    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Motorcoach Country Club is a little bit like camping — on steroids. Huge homes on wheels stretching at least 30 feet long are parked next to casitas, swimming pools and elaborate outdoor barbecue areas with built-in flat screen TVs. The lots are surrounded by a two-mile-long lake. There's a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, and a restaurant inside the clubhouse. In fact, if you replaced the enormous motorhomes with condos, it would look like your standard, high-end Coachella Valley community. More
