RV city popping up at Albuquerque's Balloon Festival
KOB-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A steady stream of campers and trailers began rolling into Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park on Monday, right on schedule and about six days before the fiesta starts on Saturday. It's the fastest-growing town in New Mexico. It's bigger than Tatum or Texico, about the size of Raton or Ruidoso — 7,000 to 8,000 people living in about 3,500 RVs. They're busy rolling out the Astroturf, setting up the lawn chairs, hooking up the utilities and, at one trailer, trying to resuscitate a ragged-looking cherry tomato vine growing in a galvanized bucket. AAA: Gas prices continue gradual declines
Augusta Free Press    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Prices at the pump continue to retreat from an atypical September rally of daily gas price records, where nationally prices peaked at $3.87 per gallon. Despite these record highs, prices have begun to decrease following the end to the summer driving season, the resolution of regional supply and distribution issues, and the end of summer-blend gasoline specifications for much of the country on Sept. 15. The national average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline fell to $3.79 per gallon Sept. 28, 4 cents lower than one week ago and a penny below month ago prices. However, gas prices are 32 cents above year-ago prices. More

The Fayetteville Observer    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Living the RV lifestyle is a trend that's growing, thanks to large numbers of people looking to untether themselves from their homes and seek adventures. And it's a lifestyle that's not just for retirees. The typical RV owner is 48 years old, with the largest gains in ownership falling to those ages 35 to 54, according to a 2011 report about RV usage from the University of Michigan. More

Riding Arizona's Apache Trail
CNN    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In an age where planes travel at record speeds and Google Earth gives visuals of every nook and cranny in the Grand Canyon, it may seem like the spirit of adventure and exploration that characterized the Wild West has gone the way of the T Rex. But along the Apache Trail outside of Phoenix, that spirit remains afire, accessible to anyone with an RV or a car and the heart of a cowboy. The Apache Trail is a 40-mile circular road winding through the Superstition Mountains. More

Revved up: The Bortons enjoy life on the road in their RV
The Daily News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When Gary Borton retired from Federal Mogul several years ago, he and his wife, Connie, made up their minds to see the country via the open road. They would buy a fifth-wheel and visit all the places they had dreamed of. Like so many retirees, the Bortons, from Greenville, MI, planned to follow the sun wherever it led them. Then problems with Gary's vision put their plans on hold. He could no longer drive a car, much less a "big rig." This setback was short-lived; however, Connie's determination and dedication to her husband moved things forward. More

Idaho Statesman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
October and November will bring rain and snow to Idaho's mountains, but the state still has plenty of places for camping. Just bring your long johns. Campgrounds along the Snake River, from Glenns Ferry to Lewiston, have attracted campers for eons. Native Americans escaped the harsh weather in the mountains for the Snake's mild climate. Modern campers have it easier. Several campgrounds have electrical hookups for RVs so you can plug in the furnace and be toasty whatever the weather. More
