Three U.S. senators have introduced a bill to ensure that the RV industry can fully participate in the federal duty-free trade program. The program currently uses industry production data from 1995 to determine who can participate. The bill, introduced by Senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Rob Portman (R-OH), would require the government to use current data. RV and other manufacturers could benefit from reduced tariffs.

Towable trailers are officially back in vogue. That's great news for Winnebago Industries Inc., which recently acquired towable RV maker Grand Design for about $521 million. Grand Design specializes in the kind of cool-looking RVs that the younger set has started to favor in their desire for experiences. A study from the Harris Group found that 72 percent of Millennials prefer to spend their money on experiences rather than on things. So it looks like Winnebago's gamble will pay off.

Ford's F-150 pickup — the biggest selling vehicle in the United States — is getting powertrain enhancements, added safety equipment, and freshened styling for 2018. Ford added a new base engine to the lineup: an all-new 290-hp, 3.3-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. And a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 is on the way, available in the spring of 2018. New options include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control. Other available safety features previously offered include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot warning.

Consumer spending on travel-related products increased at an annual rate of 2.9 percent in the third quarter, which was greater than the increase in overall consumer spending. "Given the travel industry's critical role in job creation and export growth, this report of overall accelerated travel activity in the U.S. should be welcome news for all those concerned with the health of our country's economy," says the United States Travel Association.
