Firefighters take on SAS challenge for charity
UK Fire
A group of Cambridgeshire firefighters will be taking on a gruelling challenge, used as part of the SAS selection process, to raise money for charity.
The group of six firefighters from across the county will be taking on The Fan Dance, a physically demanding 24km trek over Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons.

Indigenous lore and the fire knowledge we ignore

As long as fire strategy prioritises suppression, the valuable
knowledge of Indigenous people will continue to be sidelined.
The hazy outline of the Sutter Buttes lingers on the horizon on the drive
along Highway 32 connecting the Sierra Nevada Mountains with
California's Sacramento Valley. Volcanic in geology, the Buttes are,
according to the Plains Miwok creation story, the source of the fire that
burnt the world over.

Carbon Monoxide Generation in Partially Suppressed Fires

Within the quarter of a century, numerous pieces of literature have been published noting the significant increase in carbon monoxide concentrations, the most fatal toxic by-product, when fires are partially suppressed through a water spray. In a master thesis presented at Lund University Haydn Lewis has studied the effect on carbon monoxide production in partly suppressed fires in small-scale experiments.

The UK Chapter announced the recipients of its 2021 awards, including Andrew Nicholson (The Fire Surgery) for Fire Engineering Strategy of the Year, Matthew Bonner (Imperial College London) for Research Project of the Year, KRESNIK and the Learning from Standard Façade Fire Test Data, and Sam Bryant (OFR) as Up-and-Coming Fire Engineer of the Year.
