Mystery burning ground found in woodlands by jogger

A Reddit user in Britain found an area of the forest floor that was mysteriously smoking, with no fire in sight.
User u/TomakaTom shared a video of the strange sight, which showed the ground charred and smoking. "I found it in Blidworth Woods, which is in a village called Blidworth just on the outskirts of Nottinghamshire [in the U.K.]," the poster, who was jogging in the area, told Newsweek.

The climate crisis has accelerated the dieback (death of trees) in forests in Germany.
Extreme temperatures and drought-hit summers have resulted in a surge in bark beetle populations. Since 2018 Germany has lost half a million hectares of forest. In particular, spruce species have been heavily impacted.

72 people arrested in Portugal this year over forest fire crime

Seventy-two people were arrested for the crime of forest fire so far this year in Portugal, the highest number since 2017, the country's National Republican Guard revealed.
According to GNR data sent to Portuguese Lusa News Agency, this year's figure was a 38% increase compared to that in 2021 when 52 arrests were recorded.
