Louisville Free Public Library
The Louisville Chapter in Louisville, Kentucky, will honor four students who won their Sigma Xi Award for presentations in regional science fairs earlier this year. The students will each receive a monetary award, certificate, and subscription to Sigma Xi’s magazine, American Scientist. They are invited to receive their awards on August 4, when the chapter sponsors a lecture by Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer George Weiblen, scientific director of the Bell Museum of Natural History and Planetarium at the University of Minnesota. Weiblen’s talk at the Louisville Free Public Library is titled, “The Cannabis Conundrum: Genetics and Politics of America’s Most Controversial Plant.”

The meeting, to be held November 10– 13 in Atlanta, features professional and student poster presentations, workshops and panel discussions, Science Cafés, a special screening of the PBS documentary The Truth About Trees, and keynote lectures by Sigma Xi’s award winners. Members are encouraged to bring students.
