Researchers and students can get science communication coaching from professional science communicator Darcy J. Gentleman. He will host free webinars for Sigma Xi on October 1 and October 8 about how to craft better science talks. These webinars are open to everyone, though space is limited and higher priority will be given to those who are registered for the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference as well as members, affiliates, and explorers. At the conference, Gentleman will lead a workshop on The Principles of Slides-Based Talks and offer just-in-time, personalized advice for research presenters.

For black holes, it's tough to stand out from the crowd: Donning a mohawk is a no-no.
Ripples in space time produced as two black holes merged into one suggest that the behemoths have no "hair," scientists report in the September 13 Physical Review Letters. That's another way of saying that, as predicted by Einstein's general theory of relativity, black holes have no distinguishing characteristics aside from mass and the rate at which they spin.
