Member Gina (Vaira) Munir, a graduate student from Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, spent last summer in Borneo thanks to Miami University's Earth Expeditions program, which combines web-based learning with field experiences in countries around the world. She studied primates and developed new ways to engage communities worldwide in primate conservation.

Sigma Xi members are invited to attend or present at the 9th International Conference on Ethics in Biology, Engineering, and Medicine (ICEBEM 2018), which will be held April 14–15 at Florida International University in Miami. Sigma Xi members receive a 20 percent discount on registration fees. The abstract submission deadline has been extended to December 15.

The Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge is seeking Sigma Xi members to evaluate contestants' projects online from January 20 to February 8 for the semi-final round. If you have expertise in aerospace and aviation, cyber technology and security, energy and environment, health and nutrition, or moving toward a smoke-free world, this opportunity is for you! Judges will be evaluating the work of student teams who are using science, technology, engineering, math, innovation, and entrepreneurship to develop world-changing solutions. Sigma Xi is a partner in this event and has helped supply judges since the competition began more than 10 years ago. Please fill out the Conrad judging form and Sigma Xi's volunteer form if you would like to participate.

Division winners receive $500 and the People's Choice Award winner receives $250.
