The CIO role: How tech's times are a-changing
CIO Insights    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Ask the man in the street what a CEO does and they won't hesitate to tell you it's the executive in charge of running a business. It's the man or woman with clout in the boardroom. Now ask what a CIO does and you're likely to get a blank look. The man in the street doesn't know you exist. But the times, they are a-changing. More

The two biggest lies about cloud security
CIO    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Treating the cloud security discussion as a black-and-white issue, where public clouds are insecure and private cloud are secure, is overly simplistic and leaves organizations that pursue either type of cloud environment vulnerable. More

CIO Zone    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
According to recent research from Gartner, CIOs should be prepared to manage inherent risks and unexpected costs during the cloud computing technology revolution. Sourcing: Keep it simple and standard
CIO Update    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The growing emphasis on standard services is making the longstanding concept of "utility computing" or usage-based pricing increasingly feasible. Government CIOs doubt cloud savings
InformationWeek    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Despite insistence from U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra that the federal government will save at least $5 billion annually through its planned implementations of cloud computing, government CIOs still aren't so sure the technology can deliver on that promise. Forty-six percent of U.S. government IT officials polled in a recent survey by Ovum said they don't think cloud computing will save their agencies enough money to make using it worthwhile. More

The next big land grab is business process
Computerworld    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It is amazing to me how much we talk about business process when in reality we understand very little about it. On, there are more than 22,000 books dedicated to countless methodologies for mapping, modeling or managing business process. With all that knowledge loose in the world, you'd think we'd know more about the topic. More

How is a CIO to know?
CIO Zone    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
What's a CIO's worst nightmare, other than being handed a pink slip? Well, one of them likely is appearing in front of an executive committee meeting and being asked a question by the CEO you can't answer.
