Rachel Swaby: From the Center of the Earth to the Stars: The Unknown History of Women in Science
Today, 3:45-4:45 p.m., Marriott Marquis Salon 1-6
Sponsored by

Rachel Swaby is a Brooklyn, NY-based writer, with two recent titles to her name: Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science – and the World and Trailblazers: 33 Women in Science Who Changed the World (targeting the younger, tween reader). "I wanted to write stories about people’s lives – not just a bullet-point list of discoveries and accomplishments,” Swaby says in the SLAS Electronic Laboratory Neighborhood e-zine. "I wanted to share the impact that these women made." She hopes that the wit and wisdom of her subjects will capture the SLAS audience in DC as enthusiastically as they have captured the many readers of her books. Swaby presents an overview of the extraordinary women featured in the books and then dives a bit deeper into their lives and why it matters that others learn about them.

Book signing to follow closing session immediately at 5:00 p.m. Books are available to purchase for $15; cash or check only.
