The SLAS2018 Scientific Program Committee is now accepting abstract submissions for the next SLAS International Conference and Exhibition, Feb. 3-7, 2018, San Diego, CA. Abstracts are being sought for podium and poster presentations in 10 educational tracks:

  • Automation and High-Throughput Technologies
  • Advances in Bioanalytics and Biomarkers
  • Biologics Discovery (NEW!)
  • Cellular Technologies
  • Chemical Biology (NEW!)

  • Micro- and Nanotechnologies
Podium abstracts are due by Monday, Aug. 7. Reminder for students: apply for an SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Award when you submit your podium or poster abstract.

Five finalists have been selected, and now it's up to the life sciences discovery and technology community to decide which one will receive the grand prize of a $500 USD Amazon gift card. Vote for your favorite finalist by 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern time on Friday, May 19.

The criteria are completely subjective — vote for the image you think is the coolest, prettiest, scariest, most interesting or whatever. In other words, vote for the one you personally like the best.

The SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Award is one way SLAS ensures that up-and-coming researchers who demonstrate outstanding achievement have the opportunity to learn from and interact with life sciences discovery and technology community leaders. If selected for a Tony B. Award at SLAS2018 (Feb. 3-7 in San Diego, CA), travel, hotel accommodations and conference registration are provided to the primary author of a submitted podium or poster abstract.

Abstracts and applications are due Aug. 7 for podium presentations; for poster presentations, Oct. 30 is the deadline.

SLAS Director of Education Steve Hamilton (a.k.a. The Lab Man) spoke with SLAS Discovery Editor-in-Chief Robert M. Campbell, SLAS Technology Editor-in-Chief Edward Kai-Hua Chow and SAGE Publishing Marketing Manager Beth Berry about exciting opportunities for the recently renamed journals. The editors address how SLAS journals are meeting evolving scientific educational needs for life sciences researchers across disciplines and geographic areas.

SLAS Affirms Five SLAS ANSI Microplate Standards

The SLAS Microplate Standards Advisory Committee, in compliance with the policies and procedures of both the Society and ANSI, recently completed the reaffirmation vote for five SLAS ANSI microplate standards. The consensus body unanimously voted "affirmative with no comment" to reaffirm all five.

The public now has until noon central on Thursday, June 8, to submit any comments to Mary Geismann for this consensus body to address before this information is officially submitted to ANSI.
