Researchers identify seventh and eighth bases of DNA

From July 27, 2011: For decades, scientists have known that DNA consists of four basic units — adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine. In recent years, scientists have expanded that list from four to six. Now, with a finding published online in the July 21 issue of the journal Science, researchers from the UNC School of Medicine have discovered the seventh and eighth bases of DNA.

From Nov. 16, 2011: Thirty nine up-and-coming students, postdocs and junior faculty have been named Tony B. Academic Travel Award recipients for SLAS2012, which takes place Feb. 4-8 in San Diego. Awardees from Warsaw to Dallas to Seoul receive complimentary travel, hotel accommodations and conference registration to participate as podium or poster presenters.
