FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR OF CERTIFICATION
|
|
The Certification Council and subcommittees have been busy with a lot of work—not the least of which is keeping up with the ongoing changes in testing of CHSE and CHSOS over the last few months. But there are many positive things that are going on regardless. Take a look!
The CHSE-A application has been updated. It is now a structured portfolio with an online application included as part of the submission. The key pieces of the structured portfolio include:
- Narrative responses to demonstrate performance in each of the domains
- A simulation-specific CV or resume that highlights your simulation and simulation-related activities
- Submission of an exemplar simulation activity for which the applicant is the primary author
- Letters of reference through a confidential online form
The due date for CHSE-A applications is September 01. Full details of the updated CHSE-A application process and structured portfolio can be found at https://www.ssih.org/Credentialing/Certification/CHSE-A. There is now also an application worksheet to help guide you through all of the steps.
The CHSOS-A certification development continues. The working group has been focused on pulling together the standards and suggested evidence that make up a CHSOS-A candidate. It has been quite the process to date with a lot of input and discussion. Next up is to develop the application requirements and review process in order to launch the pilot application cycle. Keep an eye out for further updates.
The biggest news for CHSE and CHSOS continues to be the option for remote proctoring for taking your exam. While many testing sites are open and expanding their schedules, many of you may prefer not to travel to a testing center. And of course, for all of our friends around the world, this eliminates the barrier of limited testing site locations by taking advantage of the remote proctoring option. Testing from home or from your workplace (if allowed) can be quite a good option.
IMPORTANT: make sure that your computer and internet have the technology capabilities that are needed to have a secure and positive experience for the data handling needed. You can check your system requirements and learn more about this option by going to www.simcertification.com and finding the examination information pages for CHSE or CHSOS.
Now is a great time to get certified! Join the over 2,600 individuals from 39 countries who have achieved one of the certifications since they launched in 2012!

How robots are revolutionizing nursing
Texas Monthly
Moxi is a robot, the world’s first full-time automated nursing assistant, built by Austin-based Diligent Robotics. It handles the kind of menial tasks—replenishing supplies, running samples to the lab—that can greatly reduce the time nurses spend on direct patient care (by as much as 30 percent, according to Diligent).

Research study finds MRI effective in predicting major cardiac events
Medical Xpress
Heart Failure impacts between three to four percent of the general population. While commonly related to heart attacks it can also be due to a condition called dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a disease characterized by an enlarged and weak heart muscle that can't efficiently pump blood.

New study shows advantages of ellipsys system in safely and quickly creating reliable dialysis access
Cision
A new study shows significant benefits of the Ellipsys® Vascular Access System in easily and safely creating durable vascular access for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who require hemodialysis. It also offers a standardized process for using the minimally invasive technology that other physicians can follow to reproduce the results, which "will make it easier for more practitioners to adopt this patient-friendly approach to dialysis access," explained lead author Alexandros Mallios, MD, a vascular surgeon at Institut Mutualiste Montsouris of Paris, France.

Physician fatigue linked to electronic health record use
Health Leaders
Most physicians experience fatigue working with electronic health records (EHRs) for as little as 22 minutes, a recent research article indicates.
EHR use has been directly linked to physician burnout. For years, physicians have complained about click-intense and data-busy EHR interfaces. Excessive EHR screen time has been associated with medical errors.

Let me introduce myself. I am Clancy Marshall, CEO of SimTutor. A lot has happened since I was appointed by the Board last October. However, nothing pales in comparison to the seemingly overnight ascent of COVID-19 and the recent passionate protests by the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States. These events have marked this time in history and will forever change tomorrow. Change is an unexpected story.
