TEDMED Hive offers new gadgets and ideas to make healthcare less annoying

Beyond the speakers at TEDMED 2014, the TEDMED Hive was the scene of much of the activity at the conference and was designed to advance the conversation beyond the auditorium. Healthcare entrepreneurs in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., presented mobile health devices and surgical tools to not only make healthcare easier to get but also to make it easier for caregivers to provide with fewer errors.

Lead developer and the Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University's Berwick campus, associate professor Simon Cooper, said medical researchers and professionals were concerned that patients who were deteriorating physiologically were frequently mismanaged.

Live streaming vitals on Google Glass
Outpatient Surgery
Google Glass may offer several benefits to those who wear it in surgery, including increased situational awareness and patient safety, a new study suggests. A pilot study done by the Department of Surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine tested whether surgery residents who wore Google Glass showing patients' vital signs during surgery performed any differently than those using traditional monitors.
