FROM THE SSH MEMBERSHIP DESK |
Registration for IMSH 2019 in San Antonio, Texas has officially opened! It is a little known fact that the SSH membership team runs the attendee registration for IMSH. That team is comprised of myself and Ashley Grossman, SSH Membership Coordinator. We start in July, working with a registration vendor, to build out the system. We spend a few months on this build and then in late August, we open it to the SSH staff for testing. This year we have a few new items that were fun to build: the President’s Diamond Ball and the #SimFit19Run. The Ball will be held on Saturday night and the 5K run will be held early Sunday morning. Ashley and I will be working with the attendees in the the coming months to ensure that their registrations are complete so that when they arrive at IMSH their check in is smooth and flawless! Head over to the SSH registration site and check it out. This is the time to get the Early Bird Rates! http://imsh2019.com/
Contact me with any feedback. I would love to hear from you!

Each year, more than 200,000 adult cardiac arrests occur in U.S. hospitals and less than 26 percent of those patients survive, says the American Heart Association. Additionally, survival rates vary from hospital to hospital.Could this be related to the way CPR education has traditionally been provided? To remain current in basic life support, healthcare providers only need to complete CPR training every two years. But studies show CPR skills can deteriorate within three to six months following this training, reports the AHA.

Sherry Weed pressed her fingers to her patient's neck for a few moments before announcing she didn't feel a pulse.
She quickly transitioned into CPR, rhythmically pressing down on the patients' chest in an effort to resuscitate them. With each push, a stream of data popped up on a nearby monitor, allowing others in the room to see the speed and force of Weed's chest compressions and offer feedback. No amount of CPR would have brought this particular patient into the world of the living — it was, after all, a life-sized training mannequin.

RNs are the backbone that makes every care team in your hospital run like clockwork. Yet these caregivers are often unsung heroes and heroines as well — they routinely work beyond their physical and emotional limits for the good of their patients, and do so without complaint. As a hospital administrator, however, it's crucial to realize that the more essential support you provide your RNs with, the sharper they'll be when it comes to caring for every patient — improving health outcomes across the board.

Typos, similar names and other simple errors are, in many ways, impeding accurate patient matching for providers everywhere. But these simple errors can have very real consequences. “Patient identification errors often begin during the registration process and can initiate a cascade of errors, including wrong-site surgery, delayed or lost diagnoses, and wrong patient orders, among others,” provider organizations and health IT advocates wrote in a letter to Congress this year.
