Doctors who need to operate on injured patients in emergencies have long practiced their lifesaving procedures on live animals, but now a replica of a human, called TraumaMan, is helping to modernize their training.
Thanks to a partnership between the manufacturer of TraumaMan – Seattle-based Simulab – and the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, more than 100 donated TraumaMan simulators are arriving at medical schools in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The annual report published by Medical Group Management Association, which represents physician practice groups nationwide, shows that just from last year alone, physician-owned multispecialty groups reported nearly a 12 percent increase in technology-related operating costs.

Indiana police officer Philip Mason calmly maneuvered his vehicle Sept. 24 as he pursued a "suspect" in an armed robbery during a training exercise.
Mason easily handled the slippery light snow that suddenly filled the three screens in front of him and dodged near collisions with other vehicles at intersections before cornering the suspect and his vehicle.
