North Texas existing home sales start out year on a strong note

North Texas existing home sales start out the year well above the number of homes sold in January 2012, the latest Texas A&M University Real Estate Center market report shows. Sales in January for the 29-county region, including Tarrant County, reached 4,733 homes, up 23 percent. The median sales price was also up 9 percent, to $152,000. More

The Obama Administration released data further indicating the housing market recovery is progressing. Sales of new and existing homes for January are up 8.8 percent, and 12.8 percent, respectively from December 2012, according to the most recent Housing Scorecard released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Treasury. Runoff to fill Houston Senate seat set for March 2

A Houston runoff between two Democrats vying to replace the late state Sen. Mario Gallegos will be March 2. Former Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia and state Rep. Carol Alvarado received the most votes in an eight-candidate special election last month. But neither captured a majority, resulting in the March runoff set by Gov. Rick Perry. More

So far this legislative session, most of the discussion in the state House has been politely focused on the importance of adequately funding roads and water. That changed Feb. 11. Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer, D-San Antonio, filed House Resolution 408 that would hurry up the debate on school funding in the wake of the previous week's court ruling declaring the funding system unconstitutional. There was no vote on Martinez Fischer's resolution, and it wasn't clear if there would ever be one. More

El Paso County will sue to stop Socorro from annexing part of San Elizario

The El Paso County Attorney's Office is about to file a lawsuit against the city of Socorro in an effort to stop its annexation plan that includes taking over a section of San Elizario. The decision was announced during the county Commissioners Court's meeting. Socorro officials said they had not seen the lawsuit and, therefore, would not comment. More
