Analysis: A political summons with no answer
The Texas Tribune
Texas Republicans are lucky they live in a one-party state: Some of their statewide officeholders are turning in early job performances that would make strong opponents dance a jig. A viable political opposition would be making hay of the mistakes of top Republicans like the attorney general and the commissioner of agriculture, and — that "and" is the most important element here — its voters would be rallying to the call. Looking for signs of a long-awaited Democratic resurgence in Texas? Sorry.

After nine years, the industry is finally starting to get back to normal, but there is one thing blocking the progress: A shortage of skilled workers.

Election, lawsuit could upend real estate sales price disclosure debate
The Texas Tribune
When Texans head to the polls this fall, a constitutional amendment designed to cut property taxes is expected to draw the most attention. But tucked at the end of that 112-word proposition is another change in law that some see as the key to restarting a decades-old debate. At issue is Texas' distinction as one of a handful of states that does not require the disclosure of real estate sales prices. Property appraisers and other officials argue that this missing data point makes it difficult to accurately value properties and fairly assess taxes.

Texans in Congress again target oil export ban
The Texas Tribune
A handful of Texas congressional delegation members say they have an antidote for the anxiety low oil prices have inflicted on the Texas economy: repeal a 40-year ban on exporting U.S. crude oil to the international market. After returning to the U.S. Capitol this fall, they say they are determined to move the legislation to President Obama's desk by Christmas.

Living large is becoming a relic of the past
By Kelly Sharp
Good news: The U.S. housing market will continue to thrive regardless of the economy. The homebuilder market has been growing from an amended economy, supporting the housing market and rising confidence. The National Association of Home Builders discovered that builder confidence for new single-family homes has risen to its highest level since 2005, according to The Wall Street Journal. Bad news: The amount of living space in new U.S. homes will shrink.
