Alpla claims barrier PET resin patent victory

Austrian rigid packaging group Alpla announced that the German Patent Court in Munich has ruled in its favour and revoked a patent held by Cobarr of Italy (a subsidiary of PET producer M&G Group) covering barrier resin. The German court confirmed a nullity action brought by Alpla concerning European Patent 0 964 031. This covers claims relating to PET enhanced barrier resins containing polyamide with an average domain size of between 0.2 and 1.0 microns that do not require premixing and/or the presence of a dianhydride.
