Greetings TAPPI Members! When I last spoke to you the Christmas spirit was in the air. Based on my allergies the only thing in the air now appears to be pollen. Activity at TAPPI PLACE is heating up along with the weather. We are all flushed with the success of our recent Flexible Packaging Symposium at the ICE conference. The one day event drew 56 registrants, dealing with topics such as biopolymers and sustainability. The true mark of the success of a conference is how many people are in the seats after the last speaker finishes. Based on that standard, this symposium hit the right notes. More

Pre-cut lid manufacturer Chadwicks has produced UV flexo printed aluminium lids for a new children's snack called Rippa Dippa. Chadwicks said the new aluminium lids have a special coextruded sealing layer, which enables an "easier peel suitable for the new children's snack." More

Procter & Gamble has begun producing its new Pantene shampoo and conditioner bottles made primarily from plant-based plastic - a move it first announced last August. This high-density polyethylene material, a first for the haircare industry, is made from sugarcane and will be featured on the Pantene Pro-V Nature Fusion collection. The new bottles will be initially launching in Western Europe with expansion plans to the rest of the world over the next two years. More

Fifth local plastic bag ban passed in US

Santa Clara County, Calif., supervisors have passed a ban on plastic bags that will go into effect Jan. 1. The ban is the fifth to be passed in the U.S. this year. The board said the measure will affect 56 retailers who hand out an estimated 32,000 plastic bags annually. More

Glass container maker O-I is launching a new 750mL Lean+Green Riesling bottle, which is 21 percent lighter than its predecessor but retains its premium look and feel.
