Amcor Rigid Plastics' new onsite bottle manufacturing operation at PepsiCo's Gatorade production facility is expected to produce about 650 million hot-fillable PET bottles annually. The rigid plastic packaging producer held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at PepsiCo's Gatorade production facility in Mountain Top, Pa., which featured about 50 state and local officials. Amcor received backing and financial support from state and local agencies including approximately $100,000 in grants for site development and employee training. More

RPC creates squeezy bottles for sauce firm Nowka

The German division of RPC has manufactured new plastic bottles for ketchup and sauce manufacturer Nowka. RPC Kutenholz has manufactured a 500 ml Euro Squeeze bottle which, according to the firm, offers barrier protection against oxygen transfer and water vapor. More

Senate: GMO labeling not in the states' authority

The Senate rejected an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to let states require clear labels on any food or beverage containing genetically engineered ingredients. The vote was 26 to 73. "This is the very first time a bill on labeling genetically engineered food has been brought before the Senate. It was opposed by virtually every major food corporation in the country. While we wish we could have gotten more votes, this is a good step forward and something we are going to continue to work on. The people of Vermont and the people of America have a right to know what's in the food that they eat." More

PET recycler Aserpet, based in Gaziantep, Turkey, has entered the packaging market with the installation of a PET sheet extrusion line. Machinery group Processing Technologies International (PTi), based in Aurora, Ill., said its sale of the extrusion system to Aserpet is the first it has made in Turkey.
