Texas Tire Dealers are pleased to announce the 2014 Convention will be held at the Marriott in Sugar Land, Texas. The dates will be April 23-26, 2014. Below is a tentative schedule. Program speakers and details will be available on the TTDA website in January 2014.
Dallas to vote on spending millions to pull tires from Trinity River, trash from Lake Ray Hubbard

Two months after a construction crew snatched two dozen rusty rides from the Trinity River, the Dallas City Council is set to vote on spending $3.25 million to pull illegally dumped tires from the river and trash and debris out of Lake Ray Hubbard. City officials say this is the first time in a long time that Dallas is looking to use public money to do the sort of clean-up left for years to nonprofits and volunteers.
Texas lenders approve $1 billion more in small business loans

U.S. Treasury Department officials recently released a new report showing that Small Business Lending Fund bank participants in Texas have increased their small business lending by $1.12 billion over baseline levels. Nationwide, SBLF participants have boosted small business lending by $11.2 billion over baseline levels.
Mexico tire market value increasing
The value of the Mexican tire market is expected to hit $8 billion by 2018, according to a new market research report, as both vehicle manufacturing and ownership in the country continue to grow. The report, "Mexico Tyre Market Forecast and Opportunities 2018" by TechSci Research, notes that tire market revenues grew nearly 19 percent annually from 2009-2012 as sales of both passenger cars and heavy commercial vehicles grew at double- digit rates the last three years. In addition, Mexico has one of the world's largest bus and truck fleets, which drives demand for tires.

Bridgestone facility receives 'Zero Waste To Landfill' claim validation
Bridgestone Americas' Wilson, N.C., plant has earned the Underwriters Laboratories' landfill waste diversion claim validation for Zero Waste to Landfill. The Zero Waste to Landfill is the highest claim validation that the UL gives for landfill waste diversion. The validation is presented by UL Environment, a division of UL. The Bridgestone plant is the first facility of any kind to receive this validation.

New-car average fuel economy rose to 24.8 mpg in 2013

The numbers are in, and it turns out that 2013 was another record year for the average fuel economy of new vehicles. Researchers at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute say the sales-weighted average fuel economy of all new vehicles sold in the United States last year was 24.8 mpg, fully 1 mpg higher than the 23.8 mpg for 2012. In fact, 2013's record performance is typical: Fuel economy has been improving year-to-year since UMTRI began collecting data in 2007.
