National Level Testing reminders!
Please remember that all National Level Testing applications are to be submitted online. Online applications and payment must be submitted and processed by the National Office by the applications deadline.

New 2014 Horse Management Handbook and Rules for Rallies is available for download or purchase from the

You can purchase or download just the Competitor section (part 1) or the entire Handbook (parts 1-3) which includes the Judges/Organizer and Horse Management Organizer sections. Competitors are only required to have (part 1) for all rallies.

The 2014 HM Handbook will be in effect May 1.

The USPC Founders Award
Each year, the Advisory Committee selects and presents to the USPC Board of Governors a nominee, or nominees, to receive the Founders Award.

Persons eligible to receive this prestigious award must be living individuals who have been active volunteers in Pony Club for at least 20 years and who have served on the National level, either as a member of a National Committee or on the Board of Governors. Ideally, such a person should also have made a significant contribution to Pony Club in his or her Region or local Registered Club. The names of prior recipients of the Founders Award can be found in the USPC Directory.

If you wish to nominate someone who meets these high standards, and has not yet received the Award, please follow this link to the application as the committee would like nomination forms in by July 1st.

20+ Year Local Legend Award
Established by the USPC Board of Governors in May 2010, this 20+ Year Local Legend Award is intended to honor those who have faithfully served their local club, center and/or region for at least 20 years. Recipient will be recognized in an upcoming issue of Pony Club News following receipt of complete form. This form must be completed by a DC, JtDC, CA, ACA, RS or VRS and submitted along with $10 to USPC.

This is a wonderful opportunity to thank those hard working volunteers in your area that support the clubs and region in so many ways. Follow this link to the application and there is no deadline, this is a wonderful thank you/appreciation that is available all year long!

Festival Education 2014
The following UNMOUNTED Instruction topics are planned for Festival 2014: Lower Level Standards and Certification Clinic,H-B/ H-A Prep, H-B Certification, Masters Clinics with Lendon Grey and Spy Coast Farms, Sports Psychology, Trailering 101, Equine Drugs, Vaulting, Polo, D level Nutrition, HB Conditioning Schedules, Farrier, Tai Chi, Vet Box, Polo Crosse, Saddle Fitting, Horse Massage, Holistic/Acupuncture/Herbs, Mechanics of Dressage, Rehab/Recovery, Understanding Metabolic Syndrome in the Horse, Feeding the Metabolic Horse, Grooming the Upper Level Horse, Bits, Horse Management D and C Level, Parasites, Forages and Hays. Tetrathlon Training and Fencing coming to Festival too, join in the fun!

MOUNTED Instruction will be two days only, July 20-21. Riding disciplines available to choose from are: Cross Country, Dressage, Show Jumping, Games, Western, Polocrosse, Distance Riding, and Horsemanship/Ground Training, Ride with an NE and an Early Morning Foxhunt!

Sign up to ride with Lendon Gray as an option during Festival — she will take 10 riders for this special Emerging Dressage Athlete Program. More detail in the Gold Book!

D Camp during Festival Education: This camp is designed for the Pony Club youth member up to the D-2 Level. They will ride twice a day and get to experience group instruction taught by a few of our very successful Graduate A Pony Club alumni. Good basic riding skills will be taught using a variety of methods such as playing games on horseback, learning how to ride in the open safely in a group and working towards their next certificate will all be taught during the mounted instruction. Besides riding they will have un-mounted instruction in the barn and a chance to experience taking care of their pony while at the Kentucky Horse Park.

There will be limited number of slots for D Camp so make sure to register early. Registration will be online only and tentatively set for May 1.

Plan to come and learn and be part of Festival Education as a Pony Club family, July 19-21, 2014.

New workshop added to the Un-mounted education is BioMechanics presented by leading Dressage Judge Lois Yukins and sponsored by the United States Dressage Federation. This will be held Saturday, July 19th from 9 am to 12:30 pm at the USDF building. You must be a registered member or non-member as either a mounted or un-mounted participant in Education.

Beezie Madden wins $200,000 American Invitational

Beezie Madden has claimed the recent $200,000 American Invitational, riding Coral Reef Via Volo to the win at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Fla. It was the third American Invitational victory for the reigning Longines FEI World Cup Show Jumping Champion, who bested 28 other combinations. Madden navigated Coral Reef Via Volo to a double-clear effort during a five-horse jump off. They tripped the timers in 35.91 seconds after completing a clear short course, while Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and Atlanta rode to the second place for the only other double clear effort.

Dressage stars join Spanish Riding School

Three dressage superstars are joining the renowned Spanish Riding School of Vienna on their U.K. tour later this year. Carl Hester will perform at all six tour dates, which kick off on Oct. 31, at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena, where he will be joined by Lee Pearson. Lee is Britain’s most successful Paralympian, winning his 10th gold medal during the 2012 London Paralympics. He also has six World Equestrian Games gold medals, and three more from the Europeans.

Family fun at the International Chatsworth Horse Trials

A stable of entertainments is lined up at the Dodson & Horrell International Chatsworth Horse Trials on May 16-18. Alongside the British Scurry Driving Trials, the action packed program has something for all the family with pony club games, falconry, have-a-go dog agility, gundog display and a children’s entertainment area with mini Land Rovers. In the main event, the world’s leading riders and previous entrants William Fox-Pitt, Andrew Nicholson, Zara Phillips and Sir Mark Todd are set to battle it out for the top honors.

Zara Phillips back eventing after giving birth

Zara Phillips is aiming to compete next week for the first time since becoming a mum, just three months ago. The Queen’s granddaughter has four horses entered for Symm International Horse Trials at Hambleden in Henley-on-Thames. High Kingdom and Black Tuxedo will compete in the Open Intermediate class, while CG Master Lux and Mr. Murt are entered for the Open Novice.

SEC announces 2014 Equestrian Postseason awards

The Southeastern Conference announced its 2014 postseason equestrian awards, as determined by a vote of the league’s four head coaches. South Carolina’s Katherine Schmidt was named the SEC’s Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Year and the Equitation On The Flat Co-Rider of the Year, sharing flat honors with Georgia’s Liza Finsness. South Carolina’s Johnna Letchworth was the SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Year, while Georgia’s McKenzie Lantz was the SEC’s Reining Rider of the Year.
