Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that the Pentagon will back the Trump administration's plan to take another $7.2 billion from the military's budget to pay for the border wall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs reminds veterans that the start of the new year is a good time to meet with a professional to ensure they are receiving the benefits they have earned through their service and sacrifice.
"All veterans should occasionally check with an accredited veteran service officer to see if changes in a veteran's circumstances or changes to benefit policies may have modified the programs they are eligible to receive," said Joel Mutschler, director, Bureau of Veterans Programs, Initiatives, Reintegration and Outreach.

The military has failed to meet deadlines set by Congress for rulings on veterans' requests to correct records blocking them from receiving benefits, according to a federal class-action lawsuit filed last month.
The suit brought by the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) charges that delays in processing the requests by the Boards for Correction of Military Records of the service branches amount to a denial of the due process rights of thousands of veterans.

Lawmakers want to know why thousands of housing vouchers for destitute veterans are going unused each year despite almost 38,000 potential recipients still living on the street.
The answer, Veterans Affairs officials testified, is a combination of hiring problems within the federal agency and rising rent costs in areas of the country with some of the largest homeless veterans populations.
Outside advocates warned that without solutions to those problems, the national goal of ending homelessness among veterans will remain stalled.
