Don't make the same mistakes with privatizing the management of household goods moves that DoD did with privatized military housing. And listen to military families, senators cautioned the commander of U.S. Transportation Command. Officials must get the process right so that the household goods program doesn't "end up where we are with the housing situation," said Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Two senators just introduced a bill designed to shield veterans' disability benefits from debt collectors.
When a disabled vet declares bankruptcy currently, the law allows debtors to count a veteran's disability benefits as disposable income, allowing them to seize the benefits.
Yet, Social Security disability benefits are exempted by law from being lumped into a person's disposable income in bankruptcy filings, and disability benefits in any form aren't taxable and therefore generally not considered disposable income.

The U.S. military is devising major reductions in its medical corps, unnerving the system's advocates who fear the cuts will hobble the armed forces' ability to adequately care for health problems of military personnel at home and abroad.
The move inside the military coincides with efforts by the Trump administration to privatize care for veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs last month proposed rules that would allow veterans to use private hospitals and clinics if government primary care facilities are not nearby or if they have to wait too long for an appointment.

No discussion of the state of housing in the U.S. can be discussed without addressing the constant thread of race that has been woven through the debate from day one. Housing is only one component in the persistent racial divide in the U.S., but because shelter and wealth have become so intrinsically linked, housing is an area that has an outsized impact on inequalities. Explicit segregation laws have not determined the legal basis for housing allocation for more than 70 years. Today, you are breaking the law if you display explicit racial prejudice in the housing sector. But one look at America’s public housing estates will reveal a starkly divided country. Indeed, the housing divide in over 20 metropolitan areas today is so stark that they have been qualified as "hyper-segregated."
