Jacob Fadley served four years and 12 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, repeatedly exposed to heart-thumping blasts. "It's just like an entire force is being pushed through you, something powerful too," he described. "Your body just kind of stops and goes, 'What, what is going on?' And kind of, for me, it felt like it was rebooting itself." At the end of it, he was left with no apparent physical injuries. But something was very wrong inside his head. "I came back home from my third deployment. I cried, like, all the time," he recalls. "I would get drunk, and the night would end with me yelling at somebody ... I think, no I knew, I had PTSD, but I never wanted to say that. Because when you say it, then you have to deal with it."
That was the last thing he wanted to do.

Veterans Association of America wants to know...
Do you think President Trump has blurred the lines when it comes to fulfilling a new immigration policy:
- No, I think an immigration stance like this is needed in this country.
- Yes, I don't believe that his policy on immigration has been completely vetted by his advisers.
- I'm not sure what to think at this point because the federal courts are obviously not in agreement with him.
- I think a more thorough assessment of such a policy needs to be a well thought out plan.
Please provide your unique response as we take each them very seriously..
As a reminder, we assess all answers with the utmost of care and consideration. Survey results revealed in next week's VAA Dispatch.

The next generation of veterans entering politics may be the best hope for restoring bipartisanship in Congress, according to one of the Senate's most well-known former military members. "I see talent coming up," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said during a recent interview on CNN. "I have great faith in our system of government over time. There have been strains before."

A new program that seeks to connect U.S. military veterans with jobs at the nation's airports could soon be introduced in the Upstate, South Carolina.
Tom Murphy, an author, consultant, and director of the Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University, introduced the program Edge4Vets April 3, to a crowd of airport officials.
The officials were in town for Airports Council International North America's Boards and Commissioners Conference held in partnership with Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville, South Carolina.

Not everyone has the work ethic to be an entrepreneur — the long hours, the commitment, the need to focus on the long game.
But Travis Stanley-Jones thinks one segment of the population is particularly well suited to the startup grind: military veterans.
"Veterans don't have a 9-to-5 mentality. You'll have months where you just work from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. on night ops. That is a normal course of business," he said. "It's not a 9-to-5 job, and entrepreneurship is not a 9-to-5 job."
Veterans' openness to "putting in the work for minimal pay with a long-term perspective makes veterans a better bet," said Stanley-Jones, who served with the U.S. Marine Corps for six years in the reserve, active duty and officer training.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing motor carrier CRST Expedited Inc. — a subsidiary of freight company CRST International Inc. — over disability discrimination and retaliation charges.
The EEOC alleges that the trucking company refused to hire Leon Laferriere — a Navy veteran — who requested that his service dog be allowed to ride in the truck with him.
The action was filed by the EEOC in early March in a U.S. District Court in Florida. According to court documents, Laferriere applied for a truck driver job with CRST in Fort Myers, Florida.

Wolves, it seems, are mostly misunderstood. Equally misunderstood in American culture is the war veteran. In recent years, talk of post-traumatic stress disorder has finally made its way to the mainstream, but there's a gaping chasm between talk and actually understanding how and where vets fit into our society postcombat; consider that 22 vets take their own lives every day in this country.
But in Frazier Park, just a 90-minute drive up into the mountains from Los Angeles, Matthew Simmons has made the vital connection between the woes of the wolf and those of the war veteran

President Donald Trump paid tribute to former prisoners of war, despite having mocked Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for having been captured.
Declaring April 9 "National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day," Trump said that "America honors our service men and women imprisoned during war. These patriots have moved and inspired our Nation through their unyielding sacrifices and devout allegiance."
The honor, which is undoubtedly a deserving one, is a bit ironic given Trump's previous comments about POWs.
