The American Federation of Government Employees local that represents workers at the Tomah VA medical center organized the town hall meeting to warn that the "national VA system is under attack."

Recently, New York state extended to all veterans who are members of the New York State retirement system the ability to purchase military service credit.
The new law will allow all honorably discharged veterans to buy back up to three years of their military service to credit their pensions for military service performed.

A new Cambridge, Massachusetts, startup launched out of stealth mode with the mission of helping military veterans transition into collegiate sports. Athletes of Valor was founded by Alex Stone, a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran who previously worked as a product line manager and development manager of Maryland-based athletic apparel firm Under Armour. According to Athletes of Valor, two-thirds of military veterans played high school sports and 1 million veterans are transitioning out of the armed services over the next four years. The startup connects veterans and active-duty military men and women with college coaches and recruiters.

Dozens of veterans groups — large and small, nationally known and not-so-well known — are receiving more than $5 million in donations from presidential candidate Donald Trump. Spokesmen for the groups all said they are grateful for the money.
