Two senators have introduced legislation to help the Veterans Affairs Department better fill its 45,000 vacancies. Sens. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and Jerry Moran, R-Kan., introduced the Better Workforce for Veterans Act to give VA more funding and flexibility to fill open regional leadership positions. The bill would also require VA to survey departing employees to find out why they're leaving. There are 38,000 vacant positions responsible for delivering front-line health care.

Sen. Thom Tillis has joined with senators from Texas and Massachusetts to introduce a bill that would simplify the process for troops and veterans to apply for a commercial driver's license.
Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, and Sens. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, and Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, introduced The Jobs for our Heroes Act of 2017.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County Training Centers is launching a new program for veterans in Amazon web support jobs.
Amazon Web Services is the cloud services technology of the online retail giant. The goal of the new program is to train transitioning military members and veterans at Fort Meade as Amazon cloud support associates. Training will include skills in relevant operating systems and software, cybersecurity fundamentals and programming in preparation for careers supporting Amazon Web Services.
