A new system can flag veterans at risk of suicide based on the surveys they answer about Veterans Affairs Department services they receive. A veteran filling out a feedback form about VA care might describe symptoms of suicidal thoughts or behaviors that put them at risk of homelessness. The system can then direct those patients to VA task forces specializing in preventing and mitigating those issues.

Recently, President Donald Trump signed into law a significant expansion of veterans' higher education benefits. The legislation, which has been dubbed the Forever GI Bill, received bipartisan support.
