Cmdr. John Scott Hannon, who had a distinguished career in U.S. Special Operations Command and as a leader of SEAL Team Two, took his own life.
Fortunately, before he left us, Hannon laid out a path this country would do well to explore in order to end this tragedy once and for all.
In August, the Senate took an important step toward that vision by passing the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act. The Senate's unanimous vote shows how the power of a good idea can cut through the usual partisan divide and win quick support, and it’s critical that the House take up this work and pass the bill as well.

In Homeland Security
It was like a dagger in the heart of the world's most preeminent military power. If we can't even protect our citizens, how can we be expected to honor our alliances? Whether the United States would maintain its status as the world's sole superpower going into a new century would be decided on what our next actions would be. But what's often lost in the big history of 9/11 are the individual stories.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not a military or civilian issue, but rather a human issue. PTSD is a natural response to a traumatic event that people cannot process and cope with.

Rather, increased rates of PTSD are associated with increased levels of exposure to potentially traumatic events, or PTEs.

IRRRL stands for Interest Rate Reduction Refinancing Loan. You may see it referred to as a "Streamline" or a "VA to VA." These loans are typically used to reduce the borrower's interest rate or to convert an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) to a fixed rate mortgage.
As you'd expect, IRRLs typically must result in an interest rate reduction. Otherwise, why refinance? However, there is an exception: when refinancing an existing VA guaranteed adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) to a fixed rate the interest rate may increase.

It's been said that, "Before someone can care about what you do, they need to know why you care about what you do."
The people we seek to influence, and impact, need to understand our motivation, drive and reasoning behind what we stand for in order to engage with us in meaningful ways. As people, we connect to someone's purpose and passion sometimes more than we care about how they do their work.
Wherever you are in your transition from a military to civilian career, emphasizing your "why" — the reasons behind your goals, actions and focus — will draw others closer to you so they can help and support you.
