Jeff Schogol writes, "From my high school experience in suburban Philadelphia more than 20 years ago, American history tends to end around 1945. I remember learning a lot about the causes of the Civil War, the appalling conditions most people endured during the industrial revolution, and early labor, women's, and civil rights movements. ... I'm no historian, but I suspect that if future American history books touch on the Afghanistan and Iraq wars at all, they will be similarly summed up as a 'period of readjustment' that spanned multiple generations."

Female combat deaths don't erode war support, study finds

Women’s combat deaths do not erode public support for armed conflicts any more than the deaths of male soldiers, according to a new study.
And although the thought of female combat deaths appears to reinforce women’s views on gender equality, it does not do so among men, said “At War and at Home: The Consequences of U.S. Women Combat Casualties.”
The joint study by Rice University, Harvard University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,400 adults and more than 4,000 respondents in follow-up surveys.

It pays to be a veteran, according to a new study by veterans claims law firm Hill and Ponton.
The average annual income for veterans was about $65,000 in 2019, the study reported. Those who didn't serve brought home nearly $11,000 less, with an average annual income of about $54,000.
