    Nearly three months after Hurricane Sandy devastated the northeast United States, the supply chain is struggling to gain the traction needed to help the nation's most populous region get back on its feet. As the calendar turns, the recovery work that might have otherwise been further along has instead been frustratingly slow to take shape, according to the American Logistics Aid Network, a group formed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to connect disaster relief agencies with individuals, companies and associations looking to provide logistics capabilities and resources to stricken areas.     A new survey shows that employees who aren't into their jobs cite their relationship with their boss as the biggest problem. If you think employee engagement is one of those warm and fuzzy phrases found in the self-help aisle, think again. According to new research, not only should you be taking employee engagement seriously, it's probably already a problem within your company. And you might be to blame. A recent study by Dale Carnegie and MSW Research polled a national representative sample of 1,500 employees across a wide range of industries and found only 29 percent of respondents to be fully engaged.     Minho University's Social Services Department tags its assets

    SASUM, the social services unit of Portugal's Minho University, is tracking its inventory of furnishings, electronics and sporting goods for the college's 15,000 students, using a radio frequency identification system provided by Creativesystems. SASUM is responsible for managing the university's dormitories and other campus residences, as well as food service, sports facilities and the student union building. In this role, SASUM is in charge of furnishings, such as tables, beds, laptops and devices used by students at the school. More

    Manufacturing employment rises in December

    The U.S. unemployment rate didn't budge from its 7.8 percent mark in December, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That number has held steady since September, and represents 12.2 million unemployed people. Total non-farm payroll employment increased by 155,000 in December. In 2012, employment growth averaged 153,000 per month, the same as the average monthly gain for 2011. In December, employment increased in manufacturing, food services, construction and health care. More
