EPCglobal US survey finds strong RFID foundation in CPG sector

The adoption of RFID by businesses in the North American retail supply chain is growing because of technology improvements and lower costs, according to a 2009 survey conducted by EPCglobal US. RFID adoption is taking place at a higher rate than the public perception of that adoption, according to the authors of a report summarizing the survey, and users are less concerned about technology costs than the public may think. Next View Software Inc. announced that it has integrated the Warehousing Education and Research Council Benchmark Metrics into its warehouse management and productivity solutions. The metrics are developed from the results of WERC and DC Velocity's annual Benchmarking study, now in its seventh year. The results and analysis are compiled by researchers at Georgia Southern University and the consulting firm Supply Chain Visions, WERC CEO Michael Mikitka said. More

A raft of economic changes in 2009 put the U.S. at a greater disadvantage compared with other geographies. The U.S. manufacturing industry slipped from fifth place to eighth in global cost-competitiveness, according to a new ranking from business advisory firm AlixPartners PPL. Mexico held onto the lead spot as the lowest-cost country for outsourcing production for U.S.-based companies. China slipped from fourth to sixth place, although it improved over last year’s study in many aspects, AlixPartners said. India and Vietnam retained their second and third positions, respectively.
