Talent and the supply chain
The 21st Century Supply Chain    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

I was fortunate enough to attend an AMR Research call on March 23 titled "The Supply Chain Top 25: Lessons From Leaders." Because the presenters were Debra Hoffman and Kevin O'Marah, the focus of the webinar was on the AMR Top 25 and the hard numbers that can be used to arrive at a balanced manner in which to measure supply chain performance. Recovery in shipping becoming a reality?
Commodity Online    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

Avoiding pitfalls when setting up packing stations
DC Velocity    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
You might think that setting up a packing station is no big deal. Just gather up the necessary equipment and supplies -- a work table, a bunch of empty cartons, tape, and a pile of labels -- and you're good to go. But that could be a costly mistake, say the experts. By failing to give sufficient thought to the packing process and the design of the station itself, you could set yourself up for a host of problems, including injuries, inflated transportation costs and money spent on packing materials you don't really need. POLITICO    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Details are beginning to leak out about the climate bill, after weeks of closed-door negotiations among key Senate lawmakers and staff. Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., spent the past week presenting an eight-page outline of the bill to key business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Petroleum Institute. But the bill provides a weaker cap on greenhouse gas emissions than many environmentalists had hoped. More

Bill to reform nation's multi-employer pension program introduced in Senate
DC Velocity    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The legislative push to reform the nation's multi-employer pension programs, which funds the retirements of 940,000 workers and retirees in the trucking industry, is gaining momentum. On March 22, Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., introduced legislation that he said would "ensure the solvency" of multi-employer plans and protect the pensions of more than 10 million Americans covered under multi-employer plans. An arrangement between a union and at least two employers usually in a common industry, a multi-employer plan requires participating companies to fund the pensions of workers and retirees from their companies and from other firms included in the plan.
