Freight brokerage: What the warehouse manager needs to know
Ken Ackerman
A freight broker is a company or individual who serves as a liaison between a buyer of transportation and one or more carriers. The popular vision of this occupation was vividly described by Cliff Lynch: "All too often, the term freight broker conjures up visions of Joe Bob parked in a booth at the Flying Z truck stop with his cellphone, a pad and pencil, and a generous portion of chicken-fried steak." Brie Ragland
We all have rough days on the job from time to time. Let's imagine there's a scale from 0-10 — zero being the calmest, most productive employee you can be, and 10 being a haphazard mess full of anger and stress who is barely able to complete a task — and you feel yourself running at a strong 7.5 today. To say you've had a bad day would be an understatement. However, it is time to put a plan into place to stop this destruction train in its path or, needless to say, bad things are going to happen.

READ MORE challenges students to design warehouse robots
Bloomberg via Food Logistics Inc.'s inaugural Amazon Picking Challenge inspired mechanical engineering and computer science students from around the world to design robots that can grab boxes of Oreo cookies and pencils from warehouse shelves and place them in bins, tasks ordinarily done by people, according to Bloomberg News.
